A lot of people want Kik Messenger for PC so that they can chat on their computer with friends. However, Kik Messenger has not built a PC version for your computer to download.
That’s where I come in, with the tips below you can download Kik messenger for PC in minutes and be chatting with your friends immediately on your computer. All you need is an Android emulator.
In a lot of ways our world is going to a digital one, where statistics show that in the next few years 50% of all web browsing will be done with mobile devices. Therefore, it’s essential to be able to link your mobile (iPhone and Android) and stationary (PC and Mac) lives into one. The little trick below will help you do that.
Kik Messenger is an instant messaging platform built for mobile devices such as the iPhone, Android devices, Blackberry, Windows Phone, etc. Kik Messenger operates similar to the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) and iPhone’s iMessage systems. Best of all it is completely free, unlike WhatsApp, which costs $0.99 per year after the first year.
Granted WhatsApp is a bit more popular and better funded, it was just purchased by Facebook, but I prefer Kik as it’s more fun to use and a lot of my friends are on it.
Basically, you can chat with your friends, sending them texts, video, or pictures all over a wifi signal or cellular network.
Your cell provider will not charge you for texts, but data charges will apply depending on your contract. You can also use Kik messenger to download video or pictures and send to friends or send voice messages.
What Is An Android Emulator?
An Android emulator may be new to you and you may be thinking to yourself, is this a safe way to download Kik onto my PC? First, I can say that Android emulators have been around as long as Android has been around. It was initially developed so that software engineers could test their Android code on their PC before going live with the app.
An emulator downloads APK app files and runs them on your computer using a virtual platform, similar to how Parallels runs Windows on a Mac. You can do all this without needing an actual Android smartphone or any other mobile device.
Basically, the emulator can do everything an Android phone would be able to do besides make phone calls. It uses the same software and has the same built in limitations that Google puts into their Android operating system.
Kik Messenger for PC & Computer
To download Kik Messenger for PC you need an Android emulator. There are three options for Android emulators to download: BlueStacks, YouWave, and Android’s official emulator. Each one has their own advantages and disadvantages, however I’d say BlueStacks is the most popular. Basically an Android emulator trick
1. Download an Android emulator for your PC, as I said above you can choose from many, although BlueStacks is the most popular.
2. Once downloaded, install the emulator on your computer and go through the setup process. It should be pretty straight forward, basically when opened it will look like an Android device.
3. After you get the emulator set up, go to the App Store within the emulator and search for Kik Messenger for PC. There should be an install button next to Kik Messenger.
4. Sign into Kik Messenger on your PC and you’re ready to start chatting with your friends on your computer!
That’s it! It should only take 10 minutes to get Kik Messenger for PC, basically just download an emulator for your computer and install Kik Messenger on it. If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know in the comments below!
Alternative to BlueStacks
A lot of people have been saying that they are having issues with BlueStacks. From my experience, the app is a bit buggy and often times will kick people out if the graphics card isn’t what BlueStacks wants to use. Also, if you don’t already have an Android account it can be a pain to download the app and then have to register for Google Play.
Another option if you want to download Kik you can use the new Android emulator called Andyroid, which is only available for Windows and is working on a Mac version, which hasn’t been released yet, unfortunately. I’ll keep an eye out and update this page when it is available for those of us with Macs.
One of the really cool features of Andyroid is that it automatically syncs with your apps on your iPhone or Android. Well, it says it does anyway, sometimes it doesn’t work and sometimes it does. It’s a cool feature that will be super useful in the future to get all of your social information from one platform to another.
Another alternative option is if you want to spend $19.99 you can buy YouWave, another great option for Android emulators that doesn’t have quite as many bugs as BlueStacks. I haven’t heard a whole lot about YouWave and it may just be me but their website looks a bit dated and not very well designed. That overall gives me the impression that maybe the app is not as well supported as some of the other options out there.
Great Kik Alternatives
Some of you may be skeptical about Android emulators, and that’s ok. There are some great alternatives out there since you can’t officially use Kik messenger for PC yet. One of them is the very familiar and long standing Skype.
Through Skype, you can video chat with basically anyone who has downloaded the app to their phone, tablet or computer. Video chatting and instant messaging on Skype is free, but calling landlines is a fee.
The other option is Google Hangouts which is a great app from Google which does all the stuff that Skype does and work through your online browser, no downloading necessary if your on a PC. You can also share media and files through Hangouts really easily, but no landline calling. What are some other alternatives that work on your PC?
